Public Safety

Kyle's Position:  The quality of life in Howard County is very nice, and I will do my part as an elected official to keep it that way. In order to protect small businesses and families, we must be vigorous in ferreting out crime and gangs. I will ensure that our police and first responders are adequately funded and have the tools to take on the tough tasks.

I also understand the connection between public safety and ensuring that we do not see the corrosive gang violence that we have seen in Montgomery County and Northern Virginia. One way to help pursue this goal was to reform our driver's license policy. After waiting far too long we have finally taken measured steps to achieve that goal.

Maryland was one of only four states in the U.S. that did not require a legal presence to get a driver's license. I commend State Senator Robey for supporting the necessary change in the law, as we must ensure that our state driver's licenses are no longer granted to people who have chosen to break our laws and enter our country illegally.

I suspect that on public safety Sen. Robey and I differ on little. But there is one area that we differ a great deal. Another way to ensure public safety is to have opportunities for economic growth so we do not have high unemployment, especially of young males. Ironically, Sen. Robey's high tax and high spending policies create just that.
